At the of age twenty five Charles Dickens had been married for less then a year. He lived with his loving wife Catherine and her seventeen-year-old sister Mary.

Charles’ and Mary’s relationship would grow to become one of happiness, trust and protection, and on the 7th May 1837 when Mary suddenly died, Charles Dickens was ruined. Grief stricken; he would go on to wear Mary’s ring for the rest of his life.

Lost For Words delves into the experiences of Dickens as he attempts to deal with his grief and loneliness after the loss of Mary. Visited nightly by her haunting image, Dickens struggles to sleep. This intern causes him to lose focus on his work and complete his deadlines.
Inadvertently, he begins to ignore those around him (including his grieving wife Catherine) and whilst Catherine longs for his understanding and love, Charles begins to ponder over his own feelings for the deceased Mary.
